Herringbone Lounge

Regular readers know about my passion for restyling vintage furniture. Remember the pineapple lounge suite ? And that gorgeous manilla cane suite from the 1940s? Well, today I thought I'd show you one of my recent projects a "pretzel" lounge suite.
I bought it from Katherine at the Old Boat House. It was in original condition with a brown floral fabric. Structurally it was perfect but it needed a makeover (don't we all sometimes?). So I started by choosing a fabric and went with this herringbone fabric which I imported. I thought the pattern suited the style of the suite.
Then I asked my upholsterer to replace the foam padding before upholstering the entire suite. He did a great job, the finish is superb, with piping detail around the edges of each chair. I have to admit that I really enjoy updating a classic piece of furniture with a modern fabric. It's now waiting in my on-line shop for its new home.
And a big thank you to Lucy Brook from Brisbane News magazine who featured my on-line shop in her column recently.

WOW Amber. Stunning and all of it's synonyms apply!
Unlike the cold day we're having; I envisage sitting in one of these chairs on a warm day, Singapore Sling in hand, music, children playing harmoniously (just like in the movies). I'm such a dreamer!
Katherine and Kristen are simply astounding with the goodies they procure. I remember watching this set on eBay.

About Spots and Stripes

When I began my third renovation, I swapped the corporate ladder for the rusty paint ladder and began my website and blog, Spots and Stripes, which chronicles the restoration of our 'Queenslander' in Brisbane. I'm also an interior editor helping clients to create a home which is not modern, nor traditional, rather it's interesting. For a home that is unlike any other, I can assist with the selection of lights, tiles, mirrors, wallpaper, paint, furniture and fabric.
