Driveways On My Mind

Driveways are not an area of the house that I'd given much thought to until recently. Now that we're drawing up the plans for the renovation of our Queenslander, the style of driveway is getting a lot of attention. There's the shape to consider - straight down to the garage, curved towards the garage or horseshoe.
Then there's the material to use. There's concrete, gravel, paving, stones, tiles.
What style of driveway do you like?

Gravel drives are very reminiscent of my childhood but can be a pain as far as upkeep goes.

I think a slight curve where possible adds interest to the entrance of a home and if stamped concrete can look fabulous nowadays.

Something else to consider is the non-slip factor [especially considering the weather we've been having of late] and whether or not the product that you use will fade.

Good luck with the process, there's so much to choose from!

We will most porbably be going with exposed aggregate. Look forward to reading what others recommend :)

I like your second picture very much. Our driveway is one of those faux stamped ones and I don't like it much plus it is very hard to move anything on as the wheels of the trolleys get stuck in the grooves. But then most people don't have to think about moving furniture on their driveway ha. I agree about the gravel. cheers Katherine

I like the second pic, very stylish but would you like to try an asphalt driveway?

I really like the second photo's paving, really shows off the driveway and the house.

About Spots and Stripes

When I began my third renovation, I swapped the corporate ladder for the rusty paint ladder and began my website and blog, Spots and Stripes, which chronicles the restoration of our 'Queenslander' in Brisbane. I'm also an interior editor helping clients to create a home which is not modern, nor traditional, rather it's interesting. For a home that is unlike any other, I can assist with the selection of lights, tiles, mirrors, wallpaper, paint, furniture and fabric.
