Cooking Up A Storm

Cooking seems to keep my mind off the things I'm trying not to think about. Like our home in Bulimba. And the river peaking at above the 1974 flood level tomorrow morning. I shouldn't be worrying, of course, as our family is all together and we've moved out of the flood zone. That's the important stuff. But Mr-Not-So-Handy went back to our home yesterday and managed to save some photo albums, the computer, a few handbags and a bottle of red. I had to laugh when he turned up with the Henschke but no wedding album! And we can get digital copies from our wedding photographer.
So to keep myself busy I've made a lovely broccoli soup (Jane Kennedy's recipe). Don't think I'm being virtuous. I'm not. I also made a bread and butter pudding to keep our spirits up (Nigella's version, first photo above). My Mum lives in Toowoomba and she's fine. But her house has never been cleaner. She can't stop cleaning. And she's done all the ironing too. It seems that domestic tasks can be very therapeutic in these crazy times. Are you cooking or cleaning too?

My thoughts are absolutely with you all at the moment - I can't believe the devastation I am watching on the news broadcasts at the moment. We live with floods and cyclones on a yearly basis here in Far North Queensland but nothing prepares you for it. I must admit - I do go into domestic overdrive the minute I am stressed. Please keep your spirits up! ;)Sharyne

About Spots and Stripes

When I began my third renovation, I swapped the corporate ladder for the rusty paint ladder and began my website and blog, Spots and Stripes, which chronicles the restoration of our 'Queenslander' in Brisbane. I'm also an interior editor helping clients to create a home which is not modern, nor traditional, rather it's interesting. For a home that is unlike any other, I can assist with the selection of lights, tiles, mirrors, wallpaper, paint, furniture and fabric.
